Installing the Microsoft Authenticator App
To begin, you'll need to install the Microsoft Authenticator App on your smartphone. Here are the steps to follow:
For iPhone Users:
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for Microsoft Authenticator or scan the QR code below for iPhone.
- Select the app and tap Get to download and install it.
For Android Users:
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Search for Microsoft Authenticator or scan the QR code below for Android.
- Choose the app and tap Install.
Setting up Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication
Next, sign into your Sentry email account using the Outlook Web Mail which will prompt you to set up MFA. Here are the steps to follow:
- Navigate to https://mail.office365.com/ on your Laptop or Desktop computer.
- When prompted, sign in using your Sentry email address and password.
- When you see “More information required” you are at the correct place
- Click Next three times until you see the text Scan the QR code and see this screen
- Now, on your mobile device click Add account
- On the Add Account screen select Work or School account.
- When prompted, select Scan QR code
- This Scan QR code button will open your camera within the MFA app, using your camera scan the QR code provided in the previous step.
- After scanning the QR code, it will take you back to the home screen. If you see your email address on this screen, you have set up everything correctly to this point.
Testing the MFA Setup
Once you see your email address on your phone, you are almost done setting up Multi-Factor Authentication. The final steps is testing MFA and acknowledging your account is secure. Here are the steps to doing that:
- After scanning the QR code, select the “Next” button in the bottom right.
- Now, you will be given a two-digit number on your computer. You will enter this number on your mobile device. Once entered, select Yes.
- Back on your computer, you will see a checkmark with Notification approved. MFA has been successfully configured.
- Continue to select Next and Done until you are brought to your email in Outlook Web Mail.
- Important Note: If prompted for an App Password you can enter “SentryApp”. This app password does not need to be saved or written down anywhere, it is the way Microsoft will store your device in the back-end.
